Install Windows 10 on Jaguar

2016-06-15 - did a fresh install using W/8 Pro license. Old OS was outdated w10 preview.

Has noisy case or power supply fan at startup, gets quieter after running a few minutes.

Needs HW upgrades:

• has only 2 MB DDR2 memory
• has 400 GB hard drive

Windows 10 Technical Preview on Jaguar

Booted from CD, normal installation complete in about 30 minutes. Installed 5 updates.

@@@ IE11 had problem and restarted by itself. After boot W10 said it encountered an error and rebooted itself.

@@@ Windows defender did not auto update virus and spyware definitions, was 128 days old. Did manual update, ran full system scan.

@@@ Time was off, said it was not set to sync automatically. But after update, it said it was set to update automatically.

Ran Windows Defender scan, nothing found. Downloaded Malwarebytes and ran scan - detected and quarantined 3 PUP.Optional.InstaleCore.A.

Tried to install MediaPortal, requires Net Framework 3.5 and MySQL 5.6.10.

Received several messages about OS not supported.

2015-03-14

Installed Libre Office.

Was messing around, trying first to get rid of OneDrive, then trying to put Command Window onto desktop and action bar, when a message popped up saying Your PC needs to be restarted several time to set up Windows 10. Said yes, one hour later PC is at Build 9926. Previously installed apps are OK, and Device manager no longer shows unknown device.

On last reboot, encountered OneDrive setup dialog, turned everything off, including startup when I log on.

Turned off file indexing. Stopped SuperFetch, disabled in Services. Stopped Defragment and Optimize drives from running in Administrative tools.
