Add Survey (Edit Survey)
The Add Survey and Edit Survey functions are accessible only by persons with an administrative ID. The Edit Survey function is used to update site names, numbers, or users authorized to update the survey.
The Add Survey function prepares a folder of images or photos for more processing by subsequent functions. Prior to this step, someone has photographed a rock art site, edited the photos (deleting near duplicate photos and perhaps adding scanned drawings or tracings), and may have renamed some images so the sorted filenames group images by panels. The folder of images has been copied to this web server and given a descriptive name.
Note there is a distinction made between a site and a survey. Survey is used as a noun to indicate the collection of images and measurements made at a particular point in time. There may be multiple surveys made over time for the same site. This function can add both a new site record and a new survey record, or add a new survey record for an existing site.
The first step is to select a survey from the list of those available.

The second step requires filling in the fields of the form. Note the Section field is frequently left blank.

The date the photos were originally taken. Year values of 0 - 50 are assumed to be 20xx, 51 - 99 are assumed to be 19xx. |

Site Name |
Common local name of site, or alias approved by land owner/manager. |
Site Section |
Use only if the survey is for a portion of a large site. |
Site Location |
Place name near the coordinate center, state, and country. Note political boundaries should be ignored; a Mexican site may be labeled Yuma, AZ. |
Latitude & longitude |
These will be rounded by the installation's criteria before being stored. In this installation, 2 degrees. |
Site Owner |
Use "Private" if site is owned by an individual. |
Site Number |
The local site number, generally a state number or a newly assigned number, approved by the land owner/manager. |
Site Comments |
Name, phone number, email address of site owner or manager. |
The Submit button adds the data to the database. In addition, information from each image file within the folder is collected and placed into the database. A folder of several hundred photos may take a minute to process so be patient.
The Clear button clears all fields, the Menu button takes you back to the menu, the Logoff button logs you off the DigitalRockArt application.

After processing is complete, the menu is displayed with a message stating the number of images processed.
